I scored these items at an auction! Now look!

 I attend auctions several times a week, 

in addition to working a full time job and running Funky Junk from the Country.  Quite often you see amazing pieces that you want to bid on.  Yes, I want that!  The first thing Mr. Funky Junk says is " What are going to do with that? ".  No problem honey, I already had an idea.  Can you see the light bulb going off? 

  I knew immediately when I seen this piece, what I would do with it.  You see, I had already picked up a box of vintage Christmas ornaments and have three other boxes in the workshop.  You have to pick them up when you see them, then stash them away until November.  Then you are ready to create and let everyone enjoy your treasured finds! 

  When I purchased this piece at auction I didn't realize what it was, or what it was made of.  But, for a $3.00 win at auction, it was priceless to me. After picking it up and taking it back to the truck, I realized someone had handmade this gem.  Yes, it was made with wire hangers and wired together.  Someone spent time creating this piece for a purpose.  I'm not sure I will ever know what that purpose was.  For me, I have a whole new use! 💗💗💗

  I find boxes of vintage ornaments at auction for next to nothing! They are fabulous in my eyes.  At one time these were shiny, colorful and sparkling.  Some of their color has faded and lost some of it's sparkle.  Yet, these beauties are timeless in the joy they bring when you display them.  The stories they could tell.....

  This piece was already in the workshop storage just waiting for a project.  It was once a majestic lamp with a glass shade, shining brightly.  I clipped the wires off of the lamp as it was brittle and cracked. Cleaned up the base with some steel wool and it is ready!  

  I attached the wire to the lamp pole with the piece of wire from the top. {I left the screw and the wing nut on the lamp to be able to accommodate the hanging 

piece}.  Then hung the Christmas bulbs on the loops from the hanger. It's finished!  It will be used this holiday season to display my vintage Christmas bulbs at the Maumee Antique Mall, Maumee, Ohio booths #241/242 & #258/259.

  5.  The change in colors of the trees.  Yes, it means hours of labor picking them up.  But a season full of beauty!

  4.  Halloween!  We host an annual Halloween party in our barn.  This is our 6th year of food, family, friends & fun in the barn.  Everyone has a blast, yes this is Mr. Funky Junk!

We've moved! Maumee Antique Mall Booths #241/242 & 258/259

  Yes, Funky Junk from the Country has moved, we decided to consolidate our spaces into one very large space at the Maumee Antique Mall. We are now located in booths #241/242 & 258/259 and #296. It was a difficult decision, but we have continued to grow over time and needed more space and organization.  We decided to leave D'Vine Designs in Downtown Perrysburg, Ohio.  It was a sad day to say good bye to Susan and Bridgette!  They completely understood it was a business decision.  Their shop provided me with an opportunity to grow my business and I did just that!  Believe me, I will never forget them and will stop by often! 

  So, the new space combines four booths in one area.  We will maintain our other booth in the very back of the mall. 

  When we first looked at it, we thought there is no way we will be able to fill it.  Well we were mistaken!  We had no problem filling up the space! My hubby, Mr Funky Junk did an amazing job with packing everything up and moving!  {He deserves a raise, oh wait, he volunteers! } Our great friend, Tonya also helped us with loading up glass and setting it up in the new area.  Tonya also has a couple of booths at the Mall.  Most days my hubby was exhausted having moved all day, so Tonya and I had the night shift. Thank you Tonya! 

  You never realize how much funky junk you have...until you move.  It was nice to organize the space and have a logical traffic flow.  I'm sure we will twique it over time.  For now, it looks awesome!

Love potion, eye of newt..........

  Yes, it's fall y'all. And I am lovin' it! 

  I need to decorate my new, large antique space at the Maumee Antique Mall for fall. So get ready for some fun and fancy Halloween madness!  Fall is my favorite time of year, warm days, cool crisp nights and plenty of falling leaves.  

  Last year I sold all of my velvet pumpkins and glass pumpkins.  That means I need to create something fun and exciting this year! 

  I went to The Graphics Fairy website {{www.thegraphicsfairy.com}} and printed a sheet on card stock of Halloween printables.  They are awesome!  Wing of bat, eye of newt and a love potion! Lots more......you will love them and her site! 

  Using pinking shears, I cut them out and gave them a fun rugged edge. You also need a single hole punch to put a hole in the top center for your ribbon, string or jute.  The previous day I had gone to my favorite thrift store" Savers" to pick up some glass bottles, vases and pumpkins.  This time of year, they have tons of cute little Halloween pieces to use  or create with.  

  After picking up some ribbon from JoAnne Fabrics and raiding my workshop for skelton keys and a mason jar. I am ready to put all the pieces together. 

  I love ribbon and always want to use it in my vignettes and decorating.  Using ribbon, string and jute I looped it through the hole and tied them around my vintage bottles.  Using different sized bottles for each tag, keeps it interesting and fun.  If you are like me, I love old bottles, dirty, clean, any shape or color!  

  The love potion was deserving of the large blue, vintage Mason jar.  What goes into a love potion at Halloween?  That will remain a secret for now.  {{I used Epsom salts and silver glitter, with several Halloween graphic tags}}. The love potion tag along with a skeleton key {{ I had to use one! }} is attached with a black ribbon!  So cute! 

  Add several pumpkins, I love my velvet pumpkins and acorns and you all ready for your ghosts and goblins to visit!

Fall is Just Around the Corner!

  Fall is just around the corner, can you believe it?  Where did summer go?  In the blink of an eye, it passed.  

  Our weather here was just perfect this summer!  Cooler temperatures than normal and moderate rain.  Our pool is the perfect temp and the pups have enjoyed our family and friends stopping by to hang out at the pool!

  Lots of different furniture projects this summer.  Quite a few French typography pieces, that sold very quickly!  It has been hard trying to keep up.  

  This was a fun piece I completed after coming home from vacation.  Don't mind that big ball of fur in the pic, that is Zoe our designer mutt! 

  This was the first French typography piece I have done in Lamp Black milk paint and a white oil Sharpie.  It turned out very pretty!  

  These two vintage commodes were fun to paint and add graphics!  They both turned out lovely and again sold within a week.  

  I picked up four vintage commodes that each needed work.  My hubby fixed them up and I worked my magic on them!  

  This one was a keeper....... Not! It also sold in record time!  It really was a stunning piece.  

  I still have the dress form and the wicker chair, both are vintage and in excellent shape!  

  My final piece this summer is a fabulous secretary.  It was previously painted a flat brick red and didn't show any detail.  By adding the Antique White milk paint and Lamp Black inside the cabinet it looks like new.  The ebony wax always completes the piece and makes the detail pop!

  Enjoy the final days of summer.  My fall bunting is in my space and I have moved pieces around.  So stop by and find that one piece you adore!

Why do I paint?

  Have you heard this before?  "Why are you going to paint that wood?"  Is that the ten million dollar question?  Well, if I had a dollar for every time I was asked that question.  I would be rich! 

  You see, I have been painting furniture for 35 years now.  At the beginning it was because I couldn't afford anything else.  Now that I can afford it, I am still painting it.  

  I have several beautiful pieces in my booths that are not painted.  Guess what?  They are still in my booth!  And have been there for quite some time. 

  When I first told a friend of mine I was going to rent a space at the Maumee Angique Mall and fill it with painted furniture.  She asked " Will they let you have painted furniture?" Yes they will and yes they did! Now they have quite a few booths with painted furniture.  Everyone is painting furniture!  

  Again, I was the first one with painted furniture at D'Vine Designs.  Now, every booth in the boutique has painted furniture.

  So there must be a reason why I paint it?  Well there is, I love to take something old , ready for the junk yard and give it a new life.  There's something about taking it from drab to fab that gets my heart pumping!  Not all of my pieces are perfect. And I don't want them to be perfect, I want them to be loved and appreciated.
