Vacation 2015

     Our men in Montana! 

  Vacation  noun. 

an extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling.

  Every other year we travel with friends to Sturgis, South Dakota to ride the Black Hills.  We ride, eat, laugh, camp & play cards.  A time to unwind from a long hard winters, kids, work and businesses.

  If you know anything about the Sturgis, S.D. experience, you know that it is a wild time, like no other! This was the 75 th Anniversary celebration and estimates are attendance was estimated to be 1.6 million bikes.  It was crowed in some areas, but nothing overwhelming.  We tend to ride the outlying papa areas anyway.

  We hooked up the truck and toy box on Thursday evening and set out.  We didn't need to be in Rapid City, S.D. at our camp site until Saturday, so we had time to doddle and seek out antique or junk shops.  

  As a child we traveled a great deal and Mom would always say a prayer as we were pulling out in a huge woody station wagon packed with four kids, bread and sandwich spread, homemade of course.  We packed sandwich spread, bread, iced tea and adult beverages, that we won't get to enjoy until we reach camp.  My prayer is kept to myself, short and sweet, to keep us safe and allow us to have a great time!  It works for me! 

  My hubby does the pre-planning for our trip, cleaning the toy box, strapping in the motorcycles and getting plenty of candy and junk food. I make sure I round up jeans, Harley Davidson t-shirts and warm comfy sweatshirts, for this nights around the fire ring.  Sturgis, S.D. Is approximately 1200 miles and roughly 22 hour drive.  

  No vacation goes without a hiccup.  Just like 2011 we blew a tire on the toy box just over the Indiana line, not far from home, considering the 22 hour drive. My hubby had to change the tire olong side the turnpike, with trucks wiping by at 65 mph.  What a man, thank the lord he is an awesome mechanic. The organized man that he is, he had the receipt for he spare tire we blew before  in his toy box glove compartment.  Our next stop Iowa, we had the address and everything we needed to get it repaired and carry on!

  Along  the way we had to stop at several antique stores and junk shops. As  a junker you can't turn it off!  I googled along the way.  It's always interesting to see how other antique shops decorate or what's hot in their area.  One shop had closed for good several months ago and one we just couldn't find.  Check out these cool shops along the way!

  Have you ever went into an antique shop where they don't want to sell anything? This shop was it, the prices were so high, there was no way he ever sold anything, oh well, we loved walking through it!

A Custom Order

  A gentleman called me last year looking for a dresser that he wanted painted in antique white, French typography and an ebony wax. Sure, no problem, come check out what we currently have. He came out, looked around, nothing caught his eye.  He told me he would call me again, he was building a new home several miles away and it was not finished.

  Fast forward a year, he called.  He had found a beautiful dresser from the 1920's, all the drawers pulled smooth and it was in solid shape.  He wanted to know if I would just add the graphics and  wax it.  I said yes, although I was leary.  I filled a jar with paint and told him three solid coats of paint.  

  He called me 3 days later, he was done and wanted to bring out the dresser, when could I get started? Wow, that was fast!!  Bringing out the dresser was the easy part, now try to choose a design. Even I take awhile with what design to draw, but nothing like Wes!  Several hours later we had a plan.  Thank you The Graphics Fairy for so many beautiful designs to choose from! If you haven't visited The Graphics Fairy's website, you should!  You will be amazed! 

  When I finished the dresser, graphics, wax and a top coat, I called him.  He was anxious to come over and pick it up, he had guests coming and this dresser was going in the guest bedroom.  I faced the dresser towards the driveway and opened the studio overhead door. There it was in all it's glory!  So often when you are working on a piece, you really don't appreciate it, until you can stand back and look at it. 

  This is Wes's guest bedroom dresser! 

  He rang my doorbell and before I could get out the door, he was hugging me! He loved it, packed it up and away he went!

Summer junkin', who's in?

  

  It's summer in the country, it took forever to get here!  We have had tons of rain and below normal temps, yet it's still summer! Jump for joy! Ok, I digress, summer junkin fun!  

  Estate sales, garage sales, flea markets, auctions, oh my!  The choices are endless, yet my budget is not! I have been concentrating on smalls, more for your money, while the studio is packed with furniture for now. 

  What items are you looking for? My list is:  linens, tootsie toys or Tonka small trucks, door knobs, vintage Christmas items, vintage Christmas bulbs {{I can't get enough of them! }}, pink depression glass, old bottles, cobalt blue old bottles, globes & flags.  I have an electric style, so I will look at everything, eye candy! 

  Check out a couple of my summer junkin' finds so far! 

  Yes, I picked up this old scale, insert a potted plant and you have a fabulous hanging plant! 

  We picked up an old piece of stained glass at an auction.  No one else wanted it, no frame and it was bowed.  My hubby, very carefully flattened it out, added a wooden frame and painted it.  It now hangs in our sunroom! Perfect addition and fabulous piece! 

  I picked up the sun dial and two turtle sprinklers at another summer auction.  I can't get enough garden treasures.  And to think, someone else thought they were junk! 

  

  Keep junkin', the summer is still young.  While ridin' {{on the back}} I am always keeping my eyes open for great finds, with the wind in my hair!

Happy 4th of July friends...

  Time to share some Independence Day pics! Happy 4th of July everyone! 🇺🇸✌️

  I painted this commode several years ago. Every time I post a pic, I am asked if it is for sale and what the price is?  My response, SOLD.  Although, I want to paint another one.  It is the coolest!

  This pic was from last year, my kitchen table.  I love sunflowers!

  Summertime, and the living is easy... I took this pic in Sturgis, S.D. Several years ago while we were on vacation and I love it!  It doesn't get any better than this! 

  Can we keep summer all year long? Our front porch is always decked in red, white & blue! 

  And so is our shack!  This pic was taken last fall, I need to get out there and get some new pics this year. 

  Of course our cannon has a flag.  Doesn't everyone have a cannon in their back yard? Don't mind all the tire tracks in the grass, we have had so much rain this spring and summer. We want to see the sun Mother Nature! 

  I will leave you with a pic of our funky junk truck, it's a perfect faded shade of red! That's Ethan & Emily at last years 4th of July party, they had a blast! They will be here again this year for fun, food, family and the charged up golf cart!

The Beauty of Spring!

Spring in the country, welcome! 

When you think of spring, what is your first thought? Warm days, budding trees or tulips?  For me it is all of the above! 

Spring is a time to reflect, for everything is budding and will soon be in full bloom! 

Spring came while I was in the hospital having my left hip replacement. When I went in, there we're buds on the trees, when I left the nursing home/rehabilitation facility..........everything was blooming and green! I was amazed, yet so excited.

Flowers are so sweet and make me smile every time I walk out the door! 

I try to switch up on my hanging plants every year. This is the best year ever! 

This is an old scale I picked up at a flea market in Michigan just before my surgery.  I love it! My hubby fixed the chains and I added the lobelia potted plant.  The idea came from The Old Blue Bucket, check her out, I love her ideas and pics. 

I have a fascination with orbs and garden gazing balls, can you tell? I have more, big & small, different colors, ohhhhhh yummy! 

Back to our porch, our church pew {{my all time favorite roadside rescue}} still occupies a fabulous spot!

Vintage Shabby Cabinet

   Shabby Vintage Cabinet 

  Are you like me and love lots of little drawers? This vintage cabinet has the drawers and more. Come check out the transformation......

  This is the original cabinet with missing drawers.  It was in decent shape, a solid piece that needed some TLC!  I purchased this piece at an auction and paid more for it than I wanted too.  My Hubby always tells me we want to sell it, not own it.  That's true, yet this piece was so cool I  knew after I finish it I can still get my money back on it.

  I am very thankful that my Hubby can fix and build the additional pieces I need to finish my projects. He built several drawers from scrap wood we had lying around and adjusted several other drawers. 

  My studio had been overflowing with furniture and this cabinet sat for almost a year.  Over that time we had been searching for legs for the cabinet.  Everything I choose he didn't like and vice versa. {{hahaha}}  We were at an auction and came across some cast iron legs that were covered in porcelain.  We looked at them and instantly knew they would be perfect for this cabinet. 

  We were missing drawer pulls and half of the label holders were long gone.  That's when Ebay and Etsy came into play. I searched, ordered and received in record time. Amazing! 

  I knew I was going to paint it and just needed to decide on a color.  Since I wanted to keep it I went Antique White General Finishes Milk Paint.  I am a milk paint fan and that is my go to color! 

 The handles and label holders needed to be painted, so I used Rustoleum Spray Paint in Antique White to match, knowing that I would lightly {{very lightly}} brush them with milk paint. 

  My hubby was very kind and has the patience of a saint.  He attached the handles and label holders to all 24 drawers. 

  Finished! Time to photograph.  I hope you enjoy, now to move it into our dining room! Love it!
